About Teri Hatcher

The following contains a few snippets about Teri Hatcher.

Television

Teri Hatcher is best known for her lead role in the television show Desperate Housewives. This has helped her become one of the highest paid television actresses, reportedly receiving about $285,000 per episode from ABC.

Other roles include being a co-star in the Lois and Clark TV series with Dean Cain. This is said by many to be the best portrayal so far of the Lois Lane character. She played a hip, sexy, modern-day version of Lois Lane. On America Online, the most downloaded image in the middle 1990's was a photograph of her wearing nothing but a red Sperman cape.

She has had other television roles such as a guest appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation, as Penny Parker in McGyver, a guest appearance in a Seinfeld episode, and hosted Saturday Night Live in 1996.

Movies

There were also various roles in films such as Dead in the Water in 1991, 2 Days in the Valley in 1996, The Cool Surface (1994), Heaven's Prisoners (1996), the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and Spy Kids in 2001. She has done commercials such as the series she appeared in for Radio Shack and for the Repeat Cashmere line of apparel.

Her performing career began with ballet lessons when she was a young girl. In later life, the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco was where she studied acting while studying mathematics and engineering at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. In 1984 she became a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49er's and was a mermaid in the last season of The Love Boat.

The Love Boat role was more or less accidental. She went along with a friend who wanted to audition for the part, and after auditioning also, was selected. Although she loved dancing and performing, her father wanted her to pursue more serious studies. Gaining the role in Love Boat, however, started things on a different course.

Other Interests

As well as her acting career, she has other interests and means of income. Her book, Burnt Toast: And Other Philosophies of Life, was published in May, 2006. There is also a line of clothing and various merchandise. She is co-owner of farm land on the outskirts of the Los Angeles area purchased with the idea in mind of raising endangendered species. Teri enjoys playing golf.

Awards

Awards include Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Golden Globe Award (2005) for the role of single mother Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives, and an award in the same category by the Screen Actors Guild. She was also nominated for an Emmy Award in that year for the same role.

Personal life

Teri is an only child born on December 8, 1964 in Palo Alto, California. Her mother was a computer programmer of Syrian, German, and French descent. Her father was an electrical engineer who also worked in nuclear physics and was of Welsh and minor Choctaw Native American ancestry.

Her marriage to personal trainer Marcus Leithold on June 4, 1988 ended in divorce the next year. Marriage to actor Jon Tenney in May 27, 1994, lasted until March 2003. They had a daughter, Emerson Rose. In 2005, there may have been a short relationship with former NBA player John Salley. Dating Stephen Kay who acted in General Hospital as Reginald, the Quartermaines' butler is now over.

Legal Problems

Teri has been sued by a cosmetics manufacturer. They allege that she has endorsed a competitor of theirs even though she agreed to not participate in any cosmetics advertising other than theirs. Hydroderm is in the skin care business and says that the star violated her contract with them by also helping to promote a product made by City Cosmetics called "Lip Plumper".

She was apparently paid $2.4 million by Hydroderm to play a major part in their 2005 advertising campaign. The claim is that she broke an anti-competition clause in the contract by posing for photographs used in Lip Plumper advertising and by being quoted in advertising that she liked the product.
